A. Well, a solid work ethic, creative flair and the ability to listen and learn are some important things to have when working with me. The production side of music creation is very intense when working with Digital Underdog, as I usually push an artist to their absolute limits mentally, physically and spiritually so an artist or band must be able to check egos and embrace the creative process with truth. An artist or band must have the true creation and representation of their music at the top of their priorities. I don't accept vanity projects. Artists and bands that are searching for truth through music will feel very much at home working with me.
I feel truth and integrity are two very different things, and accept that an artist's or band's true musical path may not always encompass integrity. I accept that, and I am open to many different genres, styles and marketing choices an artist makes. A great example of this is an artist such as Britney Spears. While her art may not reek of integrity, there is no denying the sheer amount of work and talent that is needed to keep her one of the world's top artists. Whether you are an artist such as Britney Spears or the imaginative genius that is Jeff Buckley, I am very open to discussing your career and musical needs.
A. Well, a producer will ensure performances are the best they can be, will discuss song lengths, can change arrangements and instrumentation, offer advice, raise moral etc. A great producer will be your friend, enemy, mentor and a huge pain in the ass! If I do my job right, you should despise me!
Also, inspiring performance through emotion, whether it be introspective or passionate!
"Getting a great performance to tape is unreal. My job as a producer is to obtain great delivery, inspiring the artist to go above what he or she can do musically. That means inspiring the artist emotionally, in any means I deem to get the job done. Also, keeping the artist focused on the motivation of the song, so their delivery remains cohesive and linear. The way I do that is by working with the artist as we record, not intimidating the artist. "
"Coaxing a great performance is an artform, and maintaining artistic focus is so important. My job is to give and take, allow the artist the freedom to try new things without the artist losing focus, and sculpting the artist by allowing the artist to rely on me to direct their performance and delivery."
The question is, do you know what you're looking for? You need a producer if you want perspective, industry and emotional. If you need guidance and support throughout your project, not to mention the years of musical and equipment experience, then contact Digital Underdog today to discuss your next musical venture.
